General Information

For 2021 Brazilian Seminars edition is confirmed and will take place as an online program only (synchronous sessions – recordings available for a limited time).

Due to the pandemic restrictions, the program will be offered with 42h of online academic activities, but no technical visits, cultural and/or social activities will take place remotely.

The Brazilian Seminars developed by PUC-Rio is an international summer school which provides students, young scholars and international administrators with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about Brazil.

It’s an interdisciplinary program meant to give a broad perspective of Brazilian issues which are currently in the global scenario.

The online academic component has 42h divided in a core section of 36h, that is mandatory for all the students, and 2 different modules of 6h each, from which participants can choose.

Module 1 - Environmental issues and energy
Module 2 - Business and Entreprepeurship



Primarily undergraduate and graduate students, or professionals interested in learning more about Brazil.

Course Content

OPPORTUNITY: combine the BRAZILIAN SEMINARS with 20h or 40h of Portuguese language. A great number of cultural and social activities are included in both options.

42h of online academic activities - lectures on the following themes:

Lectures will be conducted online in English (proficiency in the language must be Intermediate or higher)

ECTS/University Credits

After the successful participation of the program, participants will receive a certificate of attendance with the total number of hours dedicated to the online academic activities and grade.

Nonetheless, it is up to the participant`s home institution to conduct the credits approval process and decide if/how the credits will be awarded.

Withdrawals and non-attendance / refund policy

In order to withdraw from the programme your request should be made in writing.

You will receive a written formal acknowledgement of your withdrawal.

A refund for tuition fees which you have paid will be issued within thirty (30) calendar days of such acknowledgement.

All refunds are made considering the amount received in Brazilian Reais. Participants will not be refunded by any shortfalls due to exchange rate fluctuations, or be compensated for any bank or other charges incurred.

Bank charges may apply.

We operate the following policy for refunds:

Date of Withdrawal Tuition Fee Refund
Withdrawals until June 20, 2021 90%
Withdrawals from June 21 till July 7, 2021 50%
After Commencement Date No refund

No refund will be given for withdrawal after the course start date unless an official exception is granted based on compassionate grounds, such as a death in the family, or a medical emergency. In such cases a written request for refund, accompanied by appropriate documentation from a third party must be submitted.

The Commencement Date refers to the date on which we begin to run events or teaching – for the Portuguese Survival course or the Brazilian Seminars, according to the applicants` program option.


The Brazilian Seminars program is offered by the Central Coordination for International Cooperation of PUC-Rio. Every care has been taken to ensure accuracy of our program. While every endeavor will be made to provide the academic activities, PUC-Rio reserves the right to make changes whenever appropriate for reasons of operational efficiency or due to circumstances beyond its control.

PUC-Rio shall not be liable for any failure or delay in the performance, in whole or part, of any of our obligations arising from or attributable to acts, events, omissions or accidents beyond our reasonable control, including - but not limited to - strikes, lock-outs or other social disputes (whether involving our workforce or the workforce of any other party), act of God, war, riot, civil commotion, malicious damage, compliance with any law or governmental order, rule, regulation or direction, accident, breakdown of plant or machinery, fire, flood, storm, pandemics, epidemics or other outbreaks of disease or infection, failure in the public supply of electricity or telecommunications equipment.
