Natural Heritage of Tinguá Private Reserve

PUC-Rio owns a 16.5ha portion of Atlantic forest. This forest is a natural heritage private reserve (NHPR), and was received as a donation on February 28, 2011. Including classrooms, an auditorium, and accommodation, there is a total of 26ha of space dedicated to field work and university extension activities.

Located in Tinguá, a district of the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, the NHPR constitutes the central corridor of the Atlantic forest. This is one of the priority areas for studying and conservation according to the Ministry of Environment, and one which contains an important sample of flora and fauna that exemplifies the Brazilian Southeast's biodiversity.
