[1] We will add you as a free subscriber of The Online World Monitor newsletter for the duration of one year, [2] and you will be free to use the handbook during this period as a registered reader.
The system is rather complex. One line of text may contain references to several resources as well as special codes (like the code for italics on and off).

Those small unexpected details may just not come out right. If you find an error like this, please do first double check with the ascii text (at http://login.eunet.no/~presno/online.txt). Use your browser's find feature to locate the assumed erroneous text. If you have located an error, please tell me: - the location (number of chapter or appendix). - provide a string that I can use to locate quickly the exact spot. - explain the error. - what do you think should be done to correct it?[2] The handbook's hyperlinks (URLs) are not pointing to a constant online
world. Web page owners, file library administrators, etc. move files to other directories, other hosts, stop offering the service, etc. We want to know about these changes as soon as possible. If you locate such an error, please tell me: - the location (number of chapter or appendix). - provide a string that I can use to locate quickly the exact spot. - explain the error (if possible, use your Web browsers mail feature to send the error message text to me.) - if you can find the new URLs carrying these services, then I would be very thankful. (One place to search is http://www.lycos.com/.) Note: Make sure the problem is not an Internet network problem. Check if the link to this service in question is working. One way of finding out is to send the URL to one of the WWW by email services to have your assumption checked from another part of the world. Send to either agora@dna.affrc.go.jp, or webmail@www.ucc.ie as advised in Chapter 12. The same applies to links to the handbook's chapters and appendices. You may just have tried to access a page at the exact moment when I am replacing it with a new version. When this happens, the page is usually unavailable for a few minutes while I telnet in to give the revised file the correct settings for access by you.[3] The online world is moving and shaking. New services are launched
every day. We are busy monitoring the action, so we can keep the handbook updated. We welcome suggested additions to the handbook's contents, and any proposed changes, but please do not bombard us with what you find during your surfing trips!!! Suggested changes/additions must be done as above. Please tell me: - the location (number of chapter or appendix), where you suggest that the change or added text should be inserted. - provide a string that I can use to locate quickly the exact spot. - describe the change/addition in a couple of paragraphs maximum, and include URLs where relevant. - tell us why you think it should be included. Bear in mind that one of the book's _ambitions_ is to strive to achieve a geographical balance of references, and that North America and Europe are already over-represented.
