J-1 (Exchange Visitor) Visa Students without U.S. citizenship or permanent residency must obtain a J-1 visa to study on exchange. The J-1 visa is used for educational and cultural exchange programs.

DS-2019 You will need a DS-2019 form issued by an university to apply for your J-1 visa, you will need to provide proof of financial support for your exchange (through a bank statement).
